Ashton secret meeting ‘source of embarrassment’ for the EU: Larijani

TEHRAN, March 12 (MNA) – Iran’s Parliament speaker has dubbed the meeting by EU Foreign Policy chief with some Iranians at Austrian embassy ‘source of embarrassment’ for the EU.

Ali Larijani said Wednesday morning that Minister of Intelligence should be more ‘alert’ in such circumstances.

Tehran representative to the Parliament Mahdi Kouchakzadeh compared Ashton’s secret meeting at the Autsrian emabassy with enactment of Capitulation treaty.

During Wednesday open session in the parliament, Kouchakzadeh emphasized that “we all swear to protect the country’s independence. By Capitulation treaty, the US tried to buy impunity for its citizens from being tried and convicted inside Iran; but EU’s representative’s behavior is worse than that because she met with the people convicted of the 2009 sedition to show sympathy to them for not being treated just.”

He believed this as example of interference with internal affairs and violation of the country’s independence, however, “Iran is an independent country and is not a colony of the EU.”

Larijani asserted that EU representative’s behavior was ‘impolite’ and not according to international protocols on meetings with third party individuals. “Such a meeting should be communicated to country’s Intelligence Ministry and Ashton’s secret meeting in Tehran with these individuals is a source of embarrassment for the EU while they do not know how much they would damage their own esteem,” he said.

He also added that the ministry of Intelligence should have been more careful and concerned.
